Artist Bio 2023

My work has a minimalist style that reflects both the natural environment and the my of drive toward abstraction. My work, I am pleased to report, is described as distinctive and identifiable. It is a fusion of Asian-influenced Sumi-e paintings and encaustic and oil paintings. I often incorporate handmade, delicate Chinese or Japanese papers with Sumi-e inks in the wax and oil substrates which provide an unusual, but definately archival product.

Living in Maine during many summers and studying Asian brush painting there with Master Sumi-e artist Frederica Marshall has proven to be the strongest influence on my work. John Marin, whose work I also greatly admire, once lived on the same island, Deer Isle.

After twenty years of residence in New York City and Providence, Rhode Island, I moved my home and studio to Washington County, Rhode Island. I have gallery representation in Deer Isle, Maine, and I am very happy to exhibit regularly at galleries in Rhode Island, New York, and Connecticut.
